C’River loses littoral state status
Imoke appeals for calm, Akpabio reaches out
THE
supremacy of the law to any political exigency was the kernel of the
Supreme Court ruling yesterday in the legal tussle between Akwa Ibom and
Cross River states over the ownership of 76 oil wells.
With a
firm declaration that Cross River State is not a littoral state, the
apex court dismissed its ownership claim to the oil wells and awarded
them to Akwa Ibom State.
The apex court verdict has rested the
January 4, 2005 political solution evolved by the National Boundary
Commission (NBC) and adopted by the administration of former President
Olusegun Obasanjo to end the feud. Under the arrangement, the oil wells
were transferred from Akwa Ibom State to Cross River State.
