THE outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Dahiru Musdapher,
has finally opened up on the crisis of confidence that rocked the
judiciary in the last two years, culminating in the suspension of the
president of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Isa Salami.
Speaking
on Monday night at his residence in Abuja, he fingered the triangular
crisis involving his two friends and former classmates, former CJN,
Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu and Salami, as well as himself as the
lowest moments of his career.
Speaking of his regrets at not
getting the issues resolved before leaving the bench, Musdapher,
however, maintained that his testimony before the National Judicial
Council (NJC) probe panel headed by Justice Umaru Abdullahi was the
truth as he knew it.
He said the truth was that Katsina-Alu never
told Salami in his presence to give judgment in favour of any party in
the Sokoto governorship election appeal, as alleged by Salami.
He
said he was, however, pushing for Salami’s return because he was not
charged over Sokoto’s matter for which he eventually received the
sticks, adding that Salami was also cleared by the Abdullahi-led panel
on Osun and Ekiti governorship appeals for which he was alleged to have
acted unethically.
