An ex-militant leader and President of the Leadership Forum for Peace
in Niger Delta, Pastor Reuben, has distanced himself from the threat of
some ex-militants to unleash violence on the Shell Petroleum
Development Company if it fails to quickly recall Mr. David Alabrah,
whose employment was terminated by the company in March.
Reuben, in a statement in Yenagoa on Monday, denied knowledge of the
threat, regretting that his name was used by others to warn Shell.
He said he had no acquaintance with the sacked Alabrah and was not in
any position to plead on his behalf or compel Shell to reinstate him.
He reinstated his commitment to the peace in the Niger Delta region
and said he would continue to adhere to the principles of amnesty he
received from the Federal Government.
He said, “I wish to categorically state that I knew nothing about the
purported press statement; neither did I endorse or authorise the use
of my name on the statement.”
