The Federal Government on Tuesday gave all
contractors handling power transmission projects across the country a
four-week deadline to complete the projects.
Vice-President Namadi Sambo gave the deadline at the
23rd meeting of the board of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company held
at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
A statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media
and Publicity, Mr. Umar Sani, quoted Sambo as directing that all issues
hindering the transmission of power to Nigerians be resolved within four
weeks.
He said in order to resolve all issues hindering the
completion of transmission lines and distribution of electricity; a
meeting that would have in attendance the Director-General, Bureau of
Public Procurement; Managing Director, NDPHC; Minister of Power; and
other stakeholders should be convened next week to resolve the matters
within four weeks.
He frowned on contractors who were slow in delivering
their jobs, adding that all issues that would make them fast-track the
projects should be resolved as well.
The NDPHC board noted that all NIPP projects should
be at 50 per cent completion in July and ceremonial inauguration would
be done when work was completed and consumers were enjoying stable
electricity supply.
On the issue of getting constant gas supply for the
power plants, the vice-president directed that adverts should be placed
for interested gas companies to indicate interest.
The board gave approvals to requests brought to it by
the NDPHC management, which included the supply of parts to Calabar,
Egbema and Gbarain power projects; extension of project consultancy
services contract of Steg Encotec (West Africa) Limited; and two
additional requests.
Its about time these guys start taking our electricity seriously.
